New painkiller aims to prevent gut woes after brain surgery
NCT ID NCT07650812
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a drug called oliceridine can reduce stomach and bowel problems after brain surgery. About 176 adults having brain tumor removal will receive either oliceridine or a standard opioid during surgery. The goal is to see if oliceridine lowers the risk of nausea, vomiting, and constipation, which can be dangerous after neurosurgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
oliceridine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a way to reduce nausea, vomiting, and constipation after brain surgery, potentially lowering the risk of bleeding.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial that hasn't started yet. The benefit over standard opioids is unproven, and oliceridine may still cause side effects.
