New study: can targeted radiation keep lung cancer treatment working longer?
NCT ID NCT06103682
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 09, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding focused radiation or ablation to standard drug therapy can help people with lung cancer that has only a few new spots of growth. The goal is to see if this approach allows patients to stay on their current treatment longer without needing to switch. About 100 adults with non-small cell or small cell lung cancer will participate.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) or interventional radiology (IR) ablation therapy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could help people with lung cancer stay on their current treatment longer by controlling small areas of cancer growth.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 2 study with only 100 participants, so results are preliminary. The local therapy may cause side effects like pain or inflammation, and it may not delay treatment failure for everyone.
