Could simple Over-the-Counter drugs supercharge cancer immunotherapy?
NCT ID NCT07661459
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adjusting common over-the-counter medications can make immune checkpoint inhibitors work better for people with solid tumors. Participants are asked to avoid acetaminophen and cannabis/THC/CBD, while taking aspirin and loratadine (or similar antihistamines) alongside their standard immunotherapy. The goal is to see if this combination improves tumor response at 18 weeks compared to similar patients from past studies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Aspirin, loratadine, acetaminophen avoidance, THC/CBD avoidance
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point to a simple, low-cost way to boost the effectiveness of standard immunotherapy for several types of cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 2 trial with a moderate number of participants, and results are compared to historical controls, which may not be perfectly matched. The approach may not work for all cancer types or may have limited benefit.
