First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tested whether a combination of L-citrulline supplements, nutritional therapy, and pulmonary rehabilitation could help recovered COVID-19 patients improve their blood vessel health, body composition, and physical function. 43 adults aged 40-80 who had recovered from COVID-19 took part. The intervention group received daily L-citrulline and nutritional guidance for 3 months, while both groups underwent pulmonary rehab. The goal was to see if this non-drug approach could ease lingering post-COVID issues.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

L-citrulline (a dietary supplement) combined with nutritional therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could offer a simple, non-drug way to help people recover from lingering COVID-19 symptoms like fatigue and poor physical function.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 43 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The supplement and rehab may not produce clear benefits over standard care.
