Dialysis patients get a helping hand: nurse-led program aims to boost self-care and quality of life
NCT ID NCT07506980
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a nurse-led program of laptop-based education, phone reminders, and a booklet can help people on hemodialysis better follow their diet and fluid restrictions, be more active, and improve their quality of life. About 112 adults who have been on dialysis for at least 3 months will take part. One group gets the nurse-led program, the other gets usual care. Researchers will check changes in weight between dialysis sessions and self-reported adherence at 2 and 6 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
nurse-led education and counseling sessions, telephone reminders, and a self-care booklet
What this could lead to
If effective, this program could become a low-cost way to help dialysis patients better manage their diet, fluids, and activity, improving their daily life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with no blinding, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is behavioral, so improvements may be modest or short-lived.
