Nurse navigators tested to boost survival in dual epidemic

NCT ID NCT02129244

Summary

This study is testing whether assigning a dedicated nurse case manager to patients improves treatment success for people with hard-to-treat, drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), many of whom also have HIV. In South African hospitals, half will use these nurses to coordinate care and support patients through a complex, two-year treatment, while the other half provide standard care. Researchers will compare outcomes to see if the extra support helps more patients complete treatment and get better.
