Nerve block showdown: which numbing drug keeps blood pressure steadier during brain surgery?

NCT ID NCT07188987

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two numbing medicines, prilocaine and lidocaine, given as a nerve block behind the nose during pituitary tumor surgery. The goal is to see which one better controls blood pressure swings and reduces the need for extra painkillers. About 54 adults aged 21-45 having this surgery will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

prilocaine or lidocaine (numbing medicines)

What this could lead to

If one works better, it could give surgeons a simple way to keep blood pressure steady during pituitary surgery, reducing bleeding and improving the view.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early study with only 54 people. The nerve block may not control blood pressure well, and both drugs carry rare risks like allergic reactions or nerve damage.
