Which drug keeps moms and babies safer during C-Sections?
NCT ID NCT06248593
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two drugs, norepinephrine and phenylephrine, given as continuous infusions to maintain blood pressure during planned C-sections under spinal anesthesia. 140 healthy pregnant women will receive one of the two drugs, and researchers will measure effects on the baby's umbilical cord blood and the mother's vital signs. The goal is to find which drug offers better safety and stability for both mother and child.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
norepinephrine and phenylephrine (drugs to raise blood pressure)
What this could lead to
If one drug proves safer or more effective, it could become the preferred choice for managing blood pressure during C-sections, improving outcomes for mothers and newborns.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial comparing two well-known drugs, so the results may not apply to all hospitals or patients. Neither drug is expected to be a breakthrough.
