Eye ultrasound may replace needle for brain pressure checks

NCT ID NCT07286396

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will test if a simple eye ultrasound can measure brain pressure in 60 adults before and after brain tumor surgery. The ultrasound looks at the optic nerve sheath diameter, which may change with pressure. If it works, it could offer a safer, non-invasive alternative to current methods.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a simple, non-invasive way to monitor brain pressure in brain tumor patients, reducing the need for invasive procedures.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study (60 people) that only tests a measurement technique, not a treatment. The method may not be accurate enough for routine clinical use.
