Breath test could replace invasive lung procedures for measuring airway health

NCT ID NCT04738422

ENROLLING_BY_INVITATION Knowledge-focused Sponsor: Indiana University Source: ClinicalTrials.gov ↗

Summary

This study aims to develop a non-invasive breath test to measure acidity levels in the airways of people with and without lung disease. Currently, measuring airway pH requires an invasive bronchoscopy procedure. Researchers will test if analyzing nitric oxide in exhaled breath before and after inhaling an alkaline buffer can accurately estimate airway pH, potentially creating a simpler diagnostic tool.
