Gentler heart bypass: new No-Touch aorta technique tested in 260-Patient trial
NCT ID NCT07172620
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new, less invasive way to perform coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) that avoids touching the aorta. The new method uses a small incision in the left chest, while the standard approach opens the chest fully. Researchers will compare how well the bypass grafts stay open and how safe each procedure is in 260 people with coronary artery disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
No-touch technique for the ascending aorta during minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery
What this could lead to
If successful, this technique could offer a safer, less invasive alternative to traditional open-chest bypass surgery, potentially reducing complications and improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center study with 260 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The new technique may not be as effective as standard surgery, and there are risks common to any heart surgery, such as infection or bleeding.
