New drug algorithm aims to quickly lower blood pressure in brain bleed patients
NCT ID NCT07044232
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using a nicardipine infusion (a fast-acting blood pressure drug) can help more stroke patients with brain bleeding reach a safe blood pressure within one hour of arriving at the hospital. About 88 adults with acute intracerebral hemorrhage and high blood pressure will be enrolled. The study compares a new treatment algorithm using nicardipine to the current standard care with nitroglycerin patches.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Nicardipine (given as an infusion) compared to glyceryl trinitrate patches
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that a fast-acting blood pressure drug helps more stroke patients reach safe blood pressure levels quickly, potentially improving recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase implementation study, not a large definitive trial. The results may not apply to all patients, and the drug may not improve long-term outcomes.
