New DNA test could slash infection failures after broken bone surgery

NCT ID NCT07458230

First seen Mar 14, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether a new DNA test called Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) can improve treatment for infections that occur after surgery to fix broken bones. About 250 adults with deep infections after fracture surgery will be randomly assigned to get treatment guided by either standard lab cultures or both cultures and NGS. The goal is to see if NGS helps reduce the need for repeat surgeries and leads to better antibiotic choices.
