New TB drug cocktail aims to shorten treatment
NCT ID NCT05807399
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This clinical trial is testing new combinations of tuberculosis (TB) drugs to see if they work better than the standard treatment. The study involves 390 adults with newly diagnosed, drug-sensitive TB. Researchers are comparing different drug regimens, including a new drug called BTZ-043, to find a shorter and more effective way to cure TB.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Combination of anti-tuberculosis drugs including BTZ-043, high-dose rifampicin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and moxifloxacin
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to shorter and more effective treatment regimens for drug-sensitive tuberculosis, reducing treatment duration and improving cure rates.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 390 participants, so results may not apply to all TB patients. The new drug BTZ-043 is still experimental, and side effects or lack of efficacy are possible.
