New combo therapy aims to crush Hard-to-Treat leukemia

NCT ID NCT07224100

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase II trial tests a combination of chemotherapy (DA-EPOCH) plus a targeted drug (ponatinib) in adults newly diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL). The study will enroll 33 people to see if this approach leads to a complete molecular response, meaning no detectable cancer cells. The goal is to improve initial treatment and reduce the chance of relapse.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

DA-EPOCH chemotherapy (etoposide, prednisone, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin) with or without rituximab plus ponatinib

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a more effective initial treatment for Ph+ ALL, potentially leading to better remission rates and longer survival.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase II trial with only 33 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Chemotherapy and ponatinib can cause serious side effects like infections, heart problems, and blood clots.
