New PET tracer could slash unnecessary biopsies for head and neck cancer patients

Summary
This early-phase study tests a new radioactive tracer called [18F]NOTA-ABY030, which is designed to make head and neck squamous cell carcinoma show up more clearly on PET/CT scans. About 25 adults with suspicious or unclear findings on standard scans will receive the tracer and be imaged to see if it improves cancer detection. The main goal is to check safety, but researchers also hope this approach will reduce the need for unnecessary biopsies and help guide treatment decisions.
