New sensors aim to spot viruses, bacteria, and parasites in minutes
NCT ID NCT06548841
First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tested new portable sensor platforms to quickly and cheaply detect three types of infections: SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19), Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, and Leishmania infantum parasites. Researchers used blood and respiratory samples from 149 adult patients to see how accurate the new sensors were compared to standard lab tests. The goal is to make infection diagnosis faster, simpler, and more accessible, especially in low-income countries.
