New eye scanner could sharpen cataract surgery results
NCT ID NCT07325162
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new optical biometer called Helioscope that measures key eye dimensions in people with cataracts. The goal is to see if it can accurately measure the eye's shape and length, which helps surgeons pick the right lens implant during cataract surgery. About 100 adults with cataracts will be measured with the new device and compared to two FDA-approved devices.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Investigational optical biometer (Helioscope)
What this could lead to
If successful, this device could help surgeons choose the right lens implant for cataract patients, potentially improving vision outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage device development study with only 100 participants. The device may not measure accurately in dense cataracts, and results may not apply to all patients.
