New scan could reveal hidden aggression in brain tumors

NCT ID NCT06059690

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests a new combined MRI and PET scan that measures how active brain tumor cells are by looking at their energy use (glycolysis). Researchers will take small tissue samples during surgery to check if the scan matches the tumor's actual biology. The goal is to better identify the most dangerous parts of glioblastoma tumors, which could help guide future treatments.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better imaging tools to see how aggressive a brain tumor is and help surgeons target the most dangerous parts during surgery.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase study with only 50 participants, focused on validating a new imaging method, not on treatment. The technique may not prove accurate or useful in practice.
