New blood test could spot deadly lung clots faster

NCT ID NCT06907238

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether new blood markers (TAT, PIC, TM, t-PAIC) can help diagnose and monitor acute pulmonary embolism (a dangerous blood clot in the lungs). Researchers will test 200 newly diagnosed patients and 200 healthy controls to see how accurate these markers are. They will also track patients over time to see if the markers can predict recovery or complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

novel thrombus markers (TAT/PIC/TM/t-PAIC) measured in blood

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a faster, non-invasive way to diagnose and monitor acute pulmonary embolism, potentially saving lives.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. The markers may not prove accurate enough for routine use, and results may not apply to all patients.
