Mind-Reading chip: neuralink Robot-Implants brain device for speech

NCT ID NCT07224256

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

Neuralink is testing a brain-computer interface called the N1 Implant, placed by a robot, to help people with severe paralysis communicate. The study will enroll 6 adults with conditions like ALS or spinal cord injury who cannot speak or use their hands well. The main goal is to check safety, but researchers will also see if the device can translate brain signals into communication.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

N1 Implant (brain-computer interface device) and R1 Robot (surgical implantation robot)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a new way for people with severe paralysis to communicate using only their thoughts.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small study (6 people) focused on safety. The device requires brain surgery, which carries risks like infection or bleeding. It may not work for everyone.
