First seen Mar 02, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tested a system that uses a dye called bevonescein and a special blue light to make nerves glow during head and neck surgery. The goal was to help surgeons see and avoid nerves more easily, which could reduce accidental nerve damage. The trial involved 155 people having surgery on the head or neck, such as thyroid or parotid gland removal. Surgeons rated how well the nerves stood out and how easy the system was to use.
