Nerve block before nose surgery could cut opioid use and speed recovery
NCT ID NCT07233538
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a numbing injection (maxillary nerve block) given before nose surgery can reduce the need for strong painkillers during the operation. 90 adults having septorhinoplasty will be split into two groups: one gets the nerve block plus general anesthesia, the other gets only general anesthesia. Researchers will measure pain, drug use, and recovery quality up to one month after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
maxillary nerve block (procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this nerve block could become a standard way to reduce pain and opioid use during nose surgery, leading to faster recovery and fewer side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 90 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. The nerve block carries rare risks like bleeding or infection.
