Ear stimulation during surgery aims to ease patient fears

NCT ID NCT07458646

Summary

This study is testing if a gentle, non-invasive stimulation of a nerve in the ear during breast cancer surgery can help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression that often occur around the time of an operation. About 232 patients will be randomly assigned to receive either the real stimulation or a sham (fake) treatment while they are under anesthesia. Researchers will then measure the patients' mood, pain, nausea, sleep, and overall recovery after surgery to see if the treatment helps.
