Summary

Researchers are testing a program that pairs older adults with a navigator and a coach to help them find and attend community activities. The goal is to increase physical activity and social contact, which may help prevent frailty. The study enrolls 45 people aged 65 and older in the Basel area who are not very active or feel socially isolated. It is a pilot trial, so the main focus is whether the program can be delivered as planned and whether a larger trial should follow.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Navigator and coach support to help older adults find and attend community activities
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give communities a practical way to help older adults stay active and socially connected, which may reduce frailty and disability later in life.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study of 45 people, so it mainly tests whether the approach can be delivered as planned, not whether it improves health. The support may not fit everyone, and results from one Swiss region may not apply elsewhere.
