Summary

Researchers are testing a community-designed education program that teaches older adults to prepare simple, healthy meals and understand basic nutrition. The program runs four workshops over several weeks, each up to three hours, with hands-on cooking, tastings, and group discussions. The study enrolls 50 community-dwelling seniors aged 60 and older who have at least one social risk factor, and it measures changes in diet quality, nutrition knowledge, and social connection.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Food literacy workshops: hands-on cooking and nutrition education sessions
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give community centers a low-cost way to help older adults eat better and feel less isolated.
What could go wrong
The study is small, with 50 participants, and measures diet over a single 24-hour recall, so results may not reflect lasting change or apply to other communities.
