New cocktail of drugs shows promise for nasopharyngeal cancer

NCT ID NCT05305131

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether adding two immunotherapy drugs (pembrolizumab and bevacizumab) to standard chemotherapy (gemcitabine and cisplatin) works better for advanced nasopharyngeal cancer. About 50 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard chemo or the new four-drug combo. The main goal is to see if the new combo leads to a complete metabolic response on a PET scan at 12 weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
gemcitabine, cisplatin, pembrolizumab, and bevacizumab
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a more effective treatment for advanced nasopharyngeal cancer, potentially improving survival and reducing relapse.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (50 people). The added drugs may cause more side effects, and the results may not lead to a new standard treatment.
