Immunotherapy duo aims to shrink nasopharyngeal tumors before standard treatment

NCT ID NCT07650266

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether adding the immunotherapy drugs cemiplimab (with or without fianlimab) to standard chemotherapy before chemoradiation can improve outcomes for people with advanced nasopharyngeal cancer. About 60 adults with non-metastatic, EBV-positive nasopharyngeal carcinoma will receive the drugs along with gemcitabine and cisplatin, followed by personalized chemoradiation. The main goal is to see how many patients have their tumors completely disappear after the initial treatment phase.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

cemiplimab and fianlimab

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could improve tumor shrinkage before standard treatment, potentially leading to better long-term control of nasopharyngeal cancer.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase pilot study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Adding immunotherapy to chemotherapy can increase side effects like immune-related inflammation.
