Scientists probe liver fuel use in fatty liver and diabetes

Summary
This study looks at how the liver uses energy in people who have both type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Researchers will measure liver cell activity before and after 16 weeks of treatment with the diabetes drug pioglitazone. The goal is to understand how the drug affects liver metabolism, not to test a new cure or treatment. About 60 adults aged 18-80 with stable diabetes and moderate to severe liver fat will take part.
