First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looked at how common iron buildup in the heart is among people with thalassemia, sickle cell disease, or myelodysplasia who receive many blood transfusions. Researchers used MRI scans to measure iron levels in the heart and liver of 110 participants. The goal was to better understand the risk of heart problems from transfusion-related iron overload.
