First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study will test whether a 4-week daily music therapy app can reduce chronic pain and improve quality of life in 25 youth with sickle cell disease. Participants will either use the app or receive standard educational materials. Researchers will also look at changes in immune cells and genes to understand how music might help.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Music therapy via a smartphone app
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease chronic pain and boost well-being for young people with sickle cell disease.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study (25 people) testing a short 4-week intervention. The results may not apply to everyone, and the app-based approach requires consistent daily use.
