Music may boost COPD rehab: study tests tunes for better breathing
NCT ID NCT05720780
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding music to standard exercise training helps people with COPD and chronic respiratory failure improve their walking distance and feel less breathless. 156 participants will either do usual rehab or rehab while listening to music they choose (rock, modern, jazz, or classical). The main goal is to see if more people in the music group can walk at least 30 meters farther in a six-minute walk test.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
music listening during exercise training
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, enjoyable way to improve exercise capacity and reduce breathlessness in people with COPD.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with no blinding, so results may be influenced by placebo effects. The benefit may be modest and not apply to all COPD patients.
