Soothing music fights ICU confusion in elderly patients
NCT ID NCT04182334
Summary
This study tested whether listening to slow-tempo music could help prevent or reduce delirium in older adults who are critically ill and on a breathing machine in the ICU. Delirium is a serious state of confusion linked to longer hospital stays and future memory problems. Researchers compared patients who received seven days of music listening through headphones to those who did not, measuring days free of delirium, pain, and anxiety.
