Music may soothe pain during bed sore treatment, new study suggests

NCT ID NCT07456618

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether playing a person's favorite music before and during wound care can reduce pain and help pressure injuries (bed sores) heal faster. Researchers will compare wound care with music to standard care without music in 50 older adults living in long-term care homes. Participants will listen to personalized playlists for 15 minutes before and during dressing changes. The study aims to see if music improves the wound care experience and healing outcomes.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease pain and improve the wound care experience for older adults with bed sores.
