Double-Tracer PET scan could revolutionize cancer detection
NCT ID NCT07178587
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a new type of PET scan that uses two different tracers at the same time can find and stage liver cancer and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors better than standard single-tracer scans. Researchers will compare the number and location of tumors seen with the new method versus the usual approach. The study involves 28 adults and also checks for side effects and image quality.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PET tracers (18F-FDG, 18F-F-choline, 68Ga-DOTATOC)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make tumor imaging faster and more accurate, helping doctors choose better treatments for liver and pancreatic cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 28 participants. The new method may not prove better than current scans, and safety data is limited.
