New Oxygen-Mapping camera could spot dangerous bowel leaks without dye

NCT ID NCT07467980

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new endoscopic camera that measures oxygen levels in the lining of the bowel during colorectal surgery. The goal is to see if low oxygen can predict leaks or strictures, which are serious complications. About 80 adults having colorectal surgery will be enrolled. The device does not use dyes, so it can be used repeatedly and safely.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a safer, dye-free way to check bowel healing during surgery and reduce serious complications like leaks.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study—it only looks for links, not a treatment. The device may not reliably predict complications in larger or more diverse groups.
