Can MRI spot hidden fistula tracts? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07510204
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will check how well MRI can find and map perianal fistulas before surgery. Thirty patients with suspected fistulas will get an MRI, and the results will be compared to what surgeons find during the operation. The goal is to see if MRI can help doctors plan better surgeries and avoid missing any hidden infection tunnels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, MRI could become a standard tool for accurately mapping fistulas before surgery, helping surgeons plan better and reduce complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early study with only 30 participants. MRI may not always match surgical findings, and results may not apply to all patients.
