Can a new MRI shortcut cut scan time without sacrificing quality?
NCT ID NCT04907487
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a technique called compressed sensing can speed up a specific type of brain MRI (QSM) without losing image quality. 82 people, including some with multiple sclerosis, had extra scan sequences added to their routine MRI. The goal was to see if the faster scans produce the same signal as the standard ones.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make brain MRI scans faster and more comfortable for patients while maintaining image quality.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed technical study focused on image quality, not on treating any disease. The results may not apply to all MRI machines or patient groups.
