First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested a program called MOVIN that encourages older adults (65+) to walk while in the hospital. The goal was to prevent loss of function and reduce hospital readmissions. Researchers enrolled 765 patients and nurses on hospital units to see if changing the culture around walking could improve outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

What this could lead to

If successful, this program could help older adults maintain their ability to walk and perform daily activities after a hospital stay, reducing the need for nursing home care.

What could go wrong

This is a completed study, so results are available but may not be widely applicable. The intervention is complex and may be hard to implement in other hospitals. Benefits may be modest.
