Scientists seek goldilocks dose: enough morphine to kill pain, not breathing

NCT ID NCT06878014

Summary

This study aims to find the safest and most effective dose of morphine injected into the spine during hip replacement surgery. Researchers are testing different amounts in 120 patients to see which provides the best pain relief for up to 48 hours after surgery while causing the fewest side effects, especially serious ones like slowed breathing. The goal is to help doctors better balance pain control with patient safety.
