Can a simple bedside program keep ICU Patients' minds clear?
NCT ID NCT06054828
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a 14-day program called mHELP@ICU for adults on breathing machines in the ICU. The program includes mental exercises, gentle physical activity, and monitoring of nutrition. Researchers want to see if it lowers the chance of delirium (sudden confusion) and helps patients recover better. About 266 patients will take part, and their progress will be tracked for up to 90 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
A behavioral program combining cognitive engagement, physical activity, and feeding monitoring
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, non-drug way to reduce delirium and improve recovery for critically ill patients.
What could go wrong
This is a moderate-sized trial (266 participants) testing a behavioral intervention, so results may not be dramatic or easily generalized. Delirium is complex and may not respond fully to this approach.
