New dental crown design could save more teeth after root canal
NCT ID NCT07206108
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a new type of dental crown, called a modified endocrown, to the standard post-and-core crown for fixing large tooth defects after root canal treatment. 246 people with treated premolars will be randomly assigned to get one of the two restorations. The goal is to see which one lasts longer and works better over two years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
modified endocrown (a dental restoration procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a simpler, more durable option for restoring teeth after root canal treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 246 patients and a 2-year follow-up. The modified endocrown may not prove superior or could have unforeseen complications.
