New mobile scanner aims to sharpen lung biopsy images
NCT ID NCT07149597
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study will test a new mobile 4D CBCT scanner that creates 3D images of lung lesions during a biopsy procedure. Researchers want to see if the images are clear and accurate enough to help doctors diagnose peripheral lung lesions. Fifty adults with small to medium-sized lung spots will be enrolled, and the scanner's images will be compared to standard CT scans.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Mobile 4D CBCT imaging device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide clearer, real-time 3D images during lung biopsies, potentially improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing the need for repeat procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage validation study with only 50 participants. The technology may not prove significantly better than current imaging, and image quality depends on expert scoring, which is subjective.
