Could a measles vaccine cure stubborn ringworm?
NCT ID NCT07312604
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study is testing whether injecting the MMR vaccine directly into skin lesions can help treat hard-to-clear fungal infections (tinea cruris and corporis). The study will enroll 50 people aged 10-60 who have not improved with standard antifungal treatments. Participants will receive injections every two weeks for up to 6 weeks, and doctors will monitor how much the affected skin area shrinks and watch for side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine injected into skin lesions
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for people with stubborn fungal skin infections that don't respond to standard antifungal drugs.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early pilot study with only 50 people. The treatment may not work better than existing options, and there are risks like injection-site reactions, fever, or allergic reactions.
