Brain scans reveal how mindfulness tames anxiety

Summary
This study looks at how mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) affects brain activity in people with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). About 150 adults with GAD will be randomly assigned to an 8-week MBSR program or a stress education class. Researchers will use brain scans (fMRI) and other tests to see how each approach changes fear-related brain circuits and whether men and women respond differently.
