Mind over gut: can meditation tame IBD Flare-Ups?
NCT ID NCT07266883
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether an 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program can lower stress and improve well-being in people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Seventy adults with mild-to-moderate IBD will either take the MBSR course online or watch an educational stress reduction video. Researchers will measure changes in anxiety, depression, and quality of life to see if mindfulness helps calm the gut-brain connection.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- mindfulness-based stress reduction program
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to help people with IBD manage stress and improve their quality of life.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 70 participants. The mindfulness program may not reduce inflammation or prevent flare-ups, and results may not apply to everyone with IBD.
