Summary

This pilot trial compares an adapted form of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy with a health education program in older Black adults who have chronic pain and early cognitive decline. The goal is to see if the mindfulness approach can improve quality of life and reduce how much pain interferes with daily activities. The study will also check whether participants find the therapy acceptable and credible.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy adapted for older adults at risk for chronic pain and early cognitive decline
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a non-drug way to ease pain's impact on daily life and support mental sharpness in older adults.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study, so results may not hold up in larger trials. The therapy requires time and commitment, and benefits may vary from person to person.
