Mindful moms: yoga may lift depression in pregnancy
NCT ID NCT04886856
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a 12-week program called Mindful Moms, which includes gentle yoga and mindfulness, can reduce depressive symptoms in pregnant women. About 200 pregnant women with mild to moderate depression will be randomly assigned to either Mindful Moms or standard prenatal education classes. The goal is to see if the yoga-based approach improves mood, anxiety, and stress more than education alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Mindful Moms (gentle yoga and mindfulness group sessions)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-drug option to help pregnant women with depression feel better during and after pregnancy.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage behavioral study with 200 participants, so results may not apply to all women. The benefit over standard prenatal education may be small or none.
