MIND diet may shield breast cancer patients from 'Chemo Brain'
NCT ID NCT05984888
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a diet called MIND (rich in berries, leafy greens, and fish) can help protect memory and thinking in women with breast cancer who are starting chemotherapy. 43 postmenopausal women with stage II-IV breast cancer will receive either nutrition counseling on the MIND diet or general health advice. Researchers will measure cognitive function remotely over 12 weeks and again 6 months later.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- MIND diet (a combination of brain-healthy foods like leafy greens, berries, nuts, and fish, while limiting unhealthy foods)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary approach to reduce memory and thinking problems after chemotherapy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study (43 people) with no placebo control, so results may not be reliable or apply to everyone. The diet may be hard to follow during cancer treatment.
