No-Drug transplant shows promise for leukemia patients too old for standard care

NCT ID NCT03232268

First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tested a new type of stem cell transplant called microtransplantation in 25 adults with myeloid blood cancers (acute myeloid leukemia or myelodysplastic syndromes) who could not have a standard transplant. Unlike regular transplants, this approach uses partially matched family donors and does not require lifelong immune-suppressing drugs. The main goal was to see if it safely avoids severe graft-versus-host disease, a common and dangerous complication.
